This is all you want from a fantasy movie - the story comes from one of the greatest Russian writers of all time, the color work and the special effects are delightful. If you really want to know what's going on, subtitles are available for the film - if you can't find them, contact me, I'll send them to you! I keep this one in my file of "Christmas Movies" - and it is a great Christmas movie!

Subject: great little story
This movie is an in-your-face delight. Colorful and sometimes hilarious. You don't even need to understand the dialog.

Subject: Marvelous movie from Nikolay Gogol
Thank you for including this on the Internet Archive. I enjoy the story so much. The films takes us back to an earlier Russian time with costumes, houses, the czar, the palace, the food . . . all the culture is wonderfully visible. In color, too.
